Device Setup Parameters - Edge (preview)
Preview of the consolidated setup-parameters page. Temporary.
Some edge device models need a little setup after they're claimed before they start reporting. In almost every case this is a set of parameters — a username and password, an SNMP community string, a port, or a device ID — that you enter once in Xyte.
Until those parameters are set, the device won't send telemetry — its page shows "This device isn't reporting data yet." A device that answers on the network can still show as reachable/online; the missing parameters are a separate state, flagged as Missing Credentials.
How to enter the parameters
Both routes open the same Add credentials dialog, which shows the parameters that specific model needs.
From the Devices table (bulk — devices with the same requirements)
- Go to Devices and select one or more devices that need the same parameters. A device that still needs its parameters shows Missing Credentials. If your selection mixes devices with different requirements — or includes devices that need no credentials — the Add Credentials button is disabled, with the tooltip "You can only bulk add credentials to devices that require credentials and have identical requirements." (This is usually the same model, but different models with identical parameters work too.)
- In the action bar at the bottom, click Add Credentials.
- Fill in the parameters and Save — it applies to every selected device.
From a single device's page
- Open the device. While setup is pending, its overview shows the "This device isn't reporting data yet" banner.
- Click ⋯ → Edit to open the same Add credentials dialog.
- Fill in the parameters and Save.
Once saved, the device starts reporting on its own — that is your confirmation it worked.
Some values come from the deviceA few parameters are generated or enabled on the device itself first — e.g. turning on SNMP (Cisco switches), generating an authentication code (Sony BRAVIA), or reading the display ID (Samsung). Get the value from the device, then enter it in Xyte.
