Claiming a native device

Overview

Devices built with native Xyte support can be claimed directly, once they're connected to the network and set up.

Registered vs. claimed

These are two separate steps, and both must happen before a device appears in your account.

  • Registered — the device has contacted Xyte for the first time and identified itself. This happens on its own, once the device is on the network with its cloud connection enabled. There is nothing for you to do.
  • Claimed — you add that registered device to your organization and space, using the steps below. This is the part you do.

A device that has not registered cannot be claimed — there is nothing yet for the claim to match. If a claim is rejected, the device has usually not registered, or the identifier you entered doesn't match what the device reported. Depending on the model, that identifier is either the MAC address and serial number, or the Cloud ID. Which one applies is set by the manufacturer, and it is not always the serial printed on the device label — some models register under an identifier derived from their MAC address. If a claim is rejected, check the identifier the device itself reports, in its front-panel menu or configuration software (for example: CONFIG > CS NETW SETTINGS > MAC ADDRESS).

Connect the device to the network

Set up Wi‑Fi/Ethernet so the device can reach the internet.

Enable cloud

Some devices require you to explicitly enable the cloud connection — consult your manufacturer's documentation.

Select the space

In the left‑hand Spaces tree, open the space (customer / room) where the device should be claimed.

Select the space to claim the device into.

Claim the device

  1. Click + Add new in the top‑right and choose Connected devices.
Add new → Connected devices.
  1. In Add new devices, under Choose a Device Vendor, find and select your vendor (use the search box if needed).
Choose a device vendor.
  1. Select the model of your device.
Select the device model.
  1. Fill in the details — confirm the Customer / space, enter the Device Cloud ID, and optionally a Device Name. The exact fields vary by device and manufacturer.
Fill in the device details.
  1. Click Add device.

You should now see the claimed device and be able to interact with it.

My device shows "Connected" but I can't claim it

Many devices show a cloud connection status in their own web interface or on-screen menu — for example a "Cloud Services" page reading Connected. That status is reported by the device itself, and means only that the device reached its cloud endpoint.

It does not tell you that the device registered with Xyte under its own identity — its MAC address and serial number, or its Cloud ID, depending on the model — or that it is claimed into your organization.

To confirm a device is claimed, look for it in your device list in the Xyte portal. If it appears there, it is claimed. If it does not and the claim is rejected, check with the device manufacturer that the unit registered with its own unique identity — a device whose configuration was copied from another unit can report a duplicate identity and register as that other device instead.
